Singapore, June 2025

Singapore was a country I had wanted to visit ever since I saw the film Ramen Shop, which follows a half-Singaporean, half-Japanese chef returning to Singapore after years away to learn his family recipes and mend old emotional wounds. It is a touching film and heavily features Singaporean cuisine. The delicious visuals made my stomach demand that I finally visit.
I decided to hit Singapore before my return visit to Hong Kong, where I once lived for about 3 years, for an epic food trip.
Singapore reminded me in some ways of Kuala Lumpur in how multicultural it is and I absolutely loved that aspect.
Besides having a blast exploring the city and eating multiple food stall meals every day, I also caught up with a Singaporean friend who used to live in Los Angeles over 10 years ago. On the same day we met up, there was a music festival happening, which really felt like the stars aligned for catching an awesome event, allowing me to check out some of the Singaporean music scene AND eat epic festival food.
Visiting Singapore marked the milestone of it being the 20th country I’ve visited, and my stomach is already looking forward to whenever I can return for seconds.
