Sunday

This past weekend included two beach outings: a 46-mile bicycle ride on Saturday to Santa Monica and Venice Beach, and a drive to El Segundo to take Ma for her birthday dinner and a beach hang.

The bike ride on Saturday successfully completed a food mission that was years in the making: finally trying out the famous burger from Hinano Cafe, a Venice dive bar that has been around since the 60s, and a place I’ve been curious to try since I used to work in the area back in 2018. I had always heard it was cash only, which was a reason why my usual card-only self never visited in the past. Before the ride, I withdrew enough cash for their burger and a beer, and lo and behold, when I arrived late that afternoon, I learned that they now accept cards. Ha! But I am happy to report that their cheeseburger was indeed delicious. And this is coming from a guy who is not much of a burger guy.

On Sunday, I drove Ma out to El Segundo for one of our favorite pizza spots, Slice & Pint. It was solid as usual, and post-meal activities included strolling downtown El Segundo and coming across a park event with live music and many locals chilling out on lawn chairs. We hung out for a while enjoying the music, pointing at dogs, and waving at kids before heading to the beach for more walking and coastal views. Happy 68 years, Ma!
