Halloween Weekend & October's Horrorthon

October 2025 has come and it was a good one. Halloween weekend was double-packed, first with an L.A. cycling scene wedding, where two of my friends in our bike group tied the knot with our two-wheeled community in attendance. Meeting at our usual downtown meet spot, two dozen of us rode with the to-be-wed couple to Elysian Park’s helipad, a popular cycling climb that overlooks downtown and Dodger Stadium. Many other cyclists were already there for the wedding ceremony. And since it was Halloween day, most of us were in costume. After a beautiful sunset hang on the hill peak, we rode down to a nearby brewery for many, many drinks. This wedding was an absolute blast and definitely the most unique one I’ve ever been to, as well as one where I’ve known the most people in attendance.

The next day, I met up with Pa and we went down to check out a local wrestling show held on the patio of an American Legion Post. Being a fan of AEW these days, this was the smallest wrestling show I’ve been to, but hot damn, it was fun! It was put on by a wrestling promotion called Grapple Labz. During the show, a Canadian-born heel tag team called the Ballard Brothers, who from what I learned are West Coast indie wrestling legends, leaned into their Canadian villainy since it was the same night the Dodgers were facing the Toronto Blue Jays in the final game of the World Series, right during the part where the Blue Jays had the lead. I just love how, in pro-wrestling fandom, Canada is always America’s rival.

As for horror movie-watching, the last few years one of my favorite traditions had been on hold due to life, busy work projects, and finishing my degree, but this year I was able to get in ten horror movies for October. Ten! For 2025 Vince, that is a big deal. This year’s movie selections were a mix of films I’d never seen and classics I hadn’t seen in years. The MVP was seeing John Carpenter’s Christine (1983) for the first time. Below is a screenshot of my October 2025 Letterboxd list.

Coming up next? November, my birthday month.
