Friday

Today I'm taking the rare half-day at work to ride the Amtrak train from LA to San Diego, where I will visit friends and watch the classic so-bad-that-it's-good film The Room (2003). Years ago, we would go to this film's wild spoon-throwing screenings on a regular basis, but we haven't done it in over seven years.

I'll crash at their place overnight, and the plan for Saturday is to go in the complete opposite direction for a movie hang. Instead of beautiful trash, I'll be watching my friends watch Casablanca (1943) for the first time, one of my all-time favorites and my main recommendation for anyone leery of black and white films.

What I'm most excited about today is the actual train ride to San Diego, which is a beautiful ride. I've taken up the act of always asking the conductor which window side gives an ocean view. Once the train gets rolling, I love to crack open my first train beer as soon as the California coast appears, taking in the sights as they whiz by. The views will definitely be included in tomorrow's morning gratitude practice when I wake up. Today's train will be around golden hour, a total win.
