Saturday
I returned from my Mexico City trip this week and immediately was back to work, making today my first rest day, aside from some laundry.
I had a chill afternoon rewatching The Mummy (1999) for the first time in 5 years, starting it with my favorite upper (black coffee) and continuing it with my favorite downer (a tall boy of lager). After a nice call with Ma, I took the subway downtown to buy a toy for next week's toy drive.
I loved the initial Christmas light extravaganza in DTLA after exiting the subway: the music, the happy cute kids, the huge tree made of lights. It's the reason why I wanted to make this errand rather than drive somewhere else. But quickly, I was reminded as to why I usually only like cycling through downtown instead of walking: people of the pushy, rude, and dicey type everywhere, and even fights breaking out on an early Saturday night. It was a reverse-culture shock from the last 10 days of the way more chill Mexico City. Even CDMX's chaotic areas didn't have the aura of self-absorbed meanness to it that DTLA does.
I just made it home and while I am not in the best mood from the errand, I'm trying to make the best out of it with airing my feelings out in this post. Next up for the night is to cook some curry fried-rice with eggs and settle down to catching up on AEW Dynamite or watch another film.
