Thursday

Survived a terrible week of being sick—either the stomach flu or a super-powered stomach bug. I haven't been sick in YEARS, which I chalk up to working full-remote for the last 5 years + my entire social life in LA being essentially cycling outside. Now with working with people half the week, plus hanging out in mostly non-cycling places, I have become......EXPOSED!!!

I could only handle eating saltines for that week, which was not bad considering I frickin love saltines. I may never have mentioned it yet in this blog, but I do not have a sweet tooth. I NEVER crave dessert, ice cream, whatever—except a birthday cake (yellow with chocolate frosting) or chocolate chip cookies during Christmas. The lack of sweet cravings has done wonders for my health and teeth as I am team salty all the way. So a sick week of saltines was okay.

The other plus was that I got to visit a Taiwanese doctor for the first time and was absolutely blown away by the awesome health care. I saw a doctor in less than 10 minutes upon arriving at my nearest family clinic, told him my symptoms, and quickly had a prescription for several meds to carry me over for the next few days. Gemini helped tons with translating the dose instructions and explaining in detail what each medicine was.

Despite the positive doctor visit and the saltines, it was still a bummer catching this, as I was going to visit a friend in Taichung last weekend, a city I haven't visited since my great island bike ride in 2024. And I was pretty isolated in my sick misery, getting swamped up in fear and negative thoughts (it was a bad stomach thing).

As I've been on the come up, tonight was my first night socializing again outside of work, joining this week's Conversation Club at my neighborhood cafe—I'll post the pic up in the microblog later. It was really fun and I love how I have a neighborhood third place now.

My Friday night plans will be hitting a pool hall and Saturday will either be a group bicycle ride or, if it rains, finishing up watching AEW All In. Then a little after midnight, monthly D&D!
