Back to the gym this week for the first time since early February and since I've relocated. Oh man, it kicked my butt! But at the same time, the multi-day soreness feels great.
Since it took the first two months since moving to get set-up with a bank account, resident ID—all that jazz, I allowed myself to enjoy being new to Taipei, with eating lots of pleasure meals and drinking way more than usual.
While it has been fun, I have felt the damage, both in diminishing fitness ability and the mental benefits of exercise. And this circles back to the soreness feeling great and want more. I'm excited to get back to a routine, which also means cutting my beer fun by half and saving pleasure meals for weekends, with more protein-heavy functional meals (but this will include lots of eggs, so it will still be pleasurable).
While I did have a mid-week drink outing due to my friends Kathren and Tim visiting from LA, I DID turn down Friday bar-hopping last night to hit up a vegetarian cafeteria restaurant for dinner (eggs and tofu piled up) and go home, opting to catch up on wrestling with a few light beers, and waking up early today to catch up on work/emails. Working and gym on the weekend? Is this me back on the grind for the first time in 2026?
